Beasiswa DAAD-Scholarships for Selected Postgraduate Courses for Professionals with Relevance to Developing Countries 2009-2010 is provided by The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Dienst (DAAD) – supports a range of postgraduate courses at German universities which aim at providing academically educated young professionals from Developing Countries (including Indonesia) with further specialised studies.
University graduates who have been working for two years in the public or private sector in technical, economical or agricultural fields, in education or development planning are eligible for these grants. The 42 courses differ in respect to fields of study, language and entry requirements. The age limit for the courses is 32 for Doctoral and 36 years for Master programme.

Scholarship description:
The intended research is situated in the domains of networked virtual environments (NVE) and human-computer interaction (HCI). More specifically, synchronization in scalable networked virtual environments is studied, supporting simulation-based interaction. The investigated synchronization techniques enhance consistency of the status of the virtual environment as presented to all users. Heterogeneous environments (different platforms, I/O devices etc.) are taken into account. Besides synchronization techniques, interaction techniques and the flexibility in their realization play an important role in the envisioned research. Usable multimodal interaction metaphors are designed for individuals as well as groups of users. A division of the users in subgroups is considered for both simulation and interaction between several users in order to enhance performance and social interaction. Within the Marie Curie Research Training Network WEMESURF we are offering 12 PhD for a periode of 3 years and 11 postdoctoral positions for a periode of 1 year to work on characterisation of wear mechanisms and surface functionality with regard to life time prediction and quality criteria - from micro to the nano range.

The fellows are expected to participate in integrative research projects applying a variety of methodologies such as AFM, XPS, ICP-OES, AES, FT-IR, TOF-SIMS, SEM stereo technique, Raman spectroscopy, interferometrical methods, confocal white light microscopy and numerous tribological test methods. Thus, the fellows will receive comprehensive training in a variety of research areas relevant to modern tribology, surface characterisation and material analysis.

Academia Sinica, the foremost research institute in Taiwan, has set up the Taiwan International Graduate Program in order to attract young researchers from around the world to its campus for PhD programs.

The Van Vollenhoven Institute for Law and Adminstration in Non- Western Countries at Leiden University is looking for a PhD Candidate for a research on conflicts of interest between stakeholders and the relevant property rights regimes in the Mahakan Delta of East Kalimantan related to forestry, shrimp farming and fishing. The research combines legal and anthropological research and is theoretically informed by interdisciplinary theory as developed in the framework of neo-law and development studies.

The aim of the research is to define how and under what conditions law can be made more effective, in particular the elements of the legal system associated wih the rule of law.
