The Bonn International Graduate School in Mathematics (BIGS-Mathematics), embraced by the Hausdorff Center for Mathematics, a Cluster of Excellence established within the German government`s Excellence Initiative, offers a PhD program in mathematics based upon the well-known teaching and research tradition of the Department of Mathematics and the Max Planck Institute for Mathematics. Research topics for dissertations can be chosen from the following sections:

1. Algebra and number theory (J. Franke, G. Harder, M. Rapoport, J. Schröer, C. Stroppel, D. Zagier)
2. Algebraic and arithmetic geometry (G.Faltings, G.Harder, D.Huybrechts, N. Perrin, M.Rapoport)

Google Europe Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship 2009

Google has published information from Google Europe Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship 2009, which aims to promote women to results in the field of computers and technology as well as active role models and leaders. Scholarships are open to students that his last year bachelor’s degree or enrolled in master’s or doctoral degree (or equivalent) in 2009/2010.

Multiple scholarships will be awarded based on the strength of candidates’ academic background and demonstrated leadership. A group of female Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD student finalists will be chosen from the applicant pool. The scholarship recipients, selected from the finalists, will each receive a €5,000 (or equivalent) scholarship for the 2009/2010 academic year.

Beasiswa DAAD-Scholarships for Selected Postgraduate Courses for Professionals with Relevance to Developing Countries 2009-2010 is provided by The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Dienst (DAAD) – supports a range of postgraduate courses at German universities which aim at providing academically educated young professionals from Developing Countries (including Indonesia) with further specialised studies.
University graduates who have been working for two years in the public or private sector in technical, economical or agricultural fields, in education or development planning are eligible for these grants. The 42 courses differ in respect to fields of study, language and entry requirements. The age limit for the courses is 32 for Doctoral and 36 years for Master programme.

Group Visits to Germany by Foreign Students for Study Trips / Study Seminars and Practicals. The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) funds Study Visits and Study Seminars and Practicals in the Federal Republic of Germany by groups of foreign students under the direction of university teachers.

I. Funding Objectives
In the case of Study Seminars and Practicals, the programme aims to encourage a policy of reciprocal invitation, although this does not constitute a condition of support, which means that funding can initially also be given for visits in only one direction.

Postdoctoral Fellowship The Max Planck Institute for the History of Science in Berlin, Independent Research Group I (Dagmar Schäfer), announces a postdoctoral fellowship for up to two years, beginning 1 September 2008.

Projects from the fields of Art, Architecture, Material Culture OR Economics in Chinese history (10th to 18th Century) that involve the relationship between practical and theoretical knowledge are particularly welcome.

Outstanding junior scholars (Ph.D. awarded no earlier than 2003) are invited to apply. Fellowships are endowed with a monthly stipend between 1.900 and 2300 € (fellows from abroad). The Max Planck Society is committed to promoting more handicapped individuals and especially encourages them to apply. Postdoctoral fellows are expected to participate in the research activities at the Institute.

These research positions are for up to 3 years, commencing 1 st October 2007. Funding is provided from a number of Science Foundation Ireland Research Frontiers Programmes.
